January 2024 Atlanta Retreat

We had a very informative MLK Day retreat. We learned about local and international conflicts. We learned about the Stop Cop City movement in Atlanta and had did a spectrum activity where we got a chance to think about our personal beliefs about safety, peace, and policing. We got to chalk the sidewalks in Decatur Square and then we returned to the Meetinghouse to make our own pizzas for lunch! We played board games in the afternoon and then learned about the Israel – Gaza Conflict from Dr. Maia Hallward of Kennesaw University. She shared some history of the region and showed us some pictures and share poems from Palestinian artists. We did a reflective activity where we thought about the Ceasefire Minutes from Atlanta Friends Meeting and Chapel Hill Friends Meeting. We wrote our thoughts and prayers for a young person (14) who attends the Ramallah Friends School and his family. He is being detained by the Israeli Defense Force. We shared epistles on Sunday morning and everyone returned safely to their homes.
